    Default adding downloadable files to web

    How does one go about putting files on thier web page that users can download.

    What kind of files? Really all that is needed is to put them in a direcotory and add a link to them on your site. They click on the link and the file is downloaded to thier computer. If you want them to be prompted to save the file to thier computer that is a bit different which is why I asked about the type of file.

    What you might be looking for is somehthing like a php download manager. Check this list of managers for one that may work for you. PHP Download Managers If those don't work for you try searching for "php Download managers" at Google or your fav SE. If you want to see if there are cgi or perl script to handle it simply change the php to one of those types.

    i want them to downoad an avi. file. I would like a prompt for them so they can choose where to save the file on thier computer. Ill check out the PHP file you mentioned.

    ive checked out some of the programs on the php manager site. i dont know much about scripting yet, is there an easy program?

    I took a look at the one on Stadtaus.com and it seemed to be pretty straight forward. The install instructions where pretty straight forward. You might want to give it a whirl and see what you think. Download Center Lite I have not actually used it but reading through the documentation I did not see anything that would be a problem with a WestHost account. Although I don't have it installed anywhere I did download the program so if you ran into problems I might be able to help you out.

    I have used phpATM (advanced transfer manager) in the past. Just google phpatm & you'll find it. There's a lot of addon's to allow public folders & such...

    No but I have used BitPass before wich I belive is a similiar service. http://www.bitpass.com/ I have not used it recently but I just took a look at thier site and it looks like they have progressed quite a bit.
