Does your ISP block port 25 access? A lot do these days and you have to use their mail server to send mail or install the alternative port application from the Site Manager.

What error messages do you get? You can try sending an email manually using Telnet as detailed in this email guide. This will help you find out where the problem is.

    and what happened?
    • Were you able to connect to your mail server?
    • Were you able to login?
    • Did you get a list of emails on your server?
    • Were you able to retrieve an email? (Retrieving an email will NOT delete it from your server, so don't worry about that)
    • What errors does Thunderbird give you (exact quote please)

If you were able to retrieve an email, then the problem is your Thunderbird/Outlook setup.

we (my client and I) were able receive mail. we found the problem, its the iSP

we are both using comcast (connecticut) so the error message points to them. we can receive mail and he can send and receive to and from his blackberry,

i havent gotten around to fixing it yet thougn

    thanks

    Lisa,\

If the message is that it can't connect to the SMTP server, that's an error sending messages, not receiving them.

    Lisa,
You never said if Comcast was blocking port 25. You did say that you thought it was them. If it is a matter of Comcast blocking port 25 then you have two options. Option one is to get them to unblock port 25. Option two is to install via the SiteManager the alternate port application.
