    Yes, web log software works very well with WestHost accounts. There are many different blog softwares available, the following is a short list of some of the more popular ones:

    WordPress (http://wordpress.org)
    Movable Type (http://www.movabletype.org)
    Livejournal (http://www.livejournal.com/)
    Greymatter (http://www.greymatterforums.com/)

    WordPress is probably the most popular free blog software currently, with a very active community behind it. It is also very easy to install on WestHost servers. The following is from their documentation:

    Installation: Famous 5-minute install
    1. Unzip the package in an empty directory
    2. Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details
    3. Save the file as wp-config.php
    4. Upload everything.
    5. Launch /wp-admin/install.php in your browser. This should setup the tables needed for your blog. If there is an error, double check your wp-config.php file, and try again. If it fails again, please go to the support forums with as much data as you can gather.
    6. Note the password given to you.
    7. The install script should then send you to the login page. Sign in with the username admin and the password generated during the installation. You can then click on 'Profile' to change the password.

    The hardest part is configuring the database connection details (step 2). Below is a basic config file with the changes that you would need to make in bold. I have tried to make better comments after the item that needs changing:

    --- WordPress Config File Start ---

    <?php
    /** WordPress's config file **/
    /** http://wordpress.org/ **/

    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define('DB_NAME', 'wp'); //(This is user defined, the MySQL DB name)
    define('DB_USER', 'root'); //(This will always be 'root')
    define('DB_PASSWORD', 'XXXXXX'); //(This is the password for MySQL)
    define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); //(This is always 'localhost')

    // Change the prefix if you want to have multiple blogs in a single database.

    $table_prefix = 'wp_'; // example: 'wp_' or 'b2' or 'mylogin_'

    // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
    // chosen language must be installed to wp-includes/languages.
    // For example, install de.mo to wp-includes/languages and set WPLANG to 'de'
    // to enable German language support.
    define ('WPLANG', '');

    /* Stop editing */

    $server = DB_HOST;
    $loginsql = DB_USER;
    $passsql = DB_PASSWORD;
    $base = DB_NAME;

    define('ABSPATH', dirname(__FILE__).'/');

    // Get everything else
    require_once(ABSPATH.'wp-settings.php');
    ?>

    --- Word Press Config File End ---

    I've just switched my site over to Wordpress and it rocks!

    No problem installing either.

    This may be a stupid question but how do I set up a database to connect to?

    You'd be better off asking this in the MySQL section of the forums...

    but basically, you are best off doing it with the PhpMyAdmin web application... more info in the other forum.

    WestHost Info on phpMyAdmin: http://members.westhost.com/sm_sa_da...hpmyadmin.html

    PhpMyAdmin Documentation:

    It would be better to post further questions in the MySQL section as Jalal suggested.

    I also recommend Wordpress. Nice, simple install, cool features.

    For hooking up MySQL, check out the Wordpress Codex, which has some explanation of it. Just scroll down to "Using phpMyAdmin".

    I think we both figured you might get more feedback from folks up there. No harm done. I did just give a step by step for creating a database and a user for use with a script like wordpress through PhpMyAdmin. It might help answer some of your other questions. You can find it here -URL REMOVED NO LONGER VALID

    Default Don't Install or Update MovableType 3.2

    I just wanted to clarify the post above that recommends Movable Type as a blog platform. Unfortunately, the latest version of Movable Type (3.2) doesn't work on WH, see this thread for details:
