Default Webmail system way too slow

The westhost webmail system is way too slow, even when using with broadband connection it crawls. With the amount of spam i have to go through and the slow speed of the site it takes forever to check e-mail. Can you guys do something about this, this is totally ridiculous anybody who has travelled for awhile trying to retrieve westhost e-mail should sympathize with this gripe.

Are you using Neomail? For our sites it is quite fast and snappy, even over a dialup modem.

It could be something specifically wrong with your server, you should maybe submit a support request.

    bnicolas,

Can you please let us know which webmail client you are using? Is it one of the ones that you installed on your own account through your site manager? Is it the one we provide at http://webmail.westhost.com? If you can please let me know I'll make sure and look into it to see if there is anything we can do to help resolve the problem.

If you are using our public webmail (http://webmail.westhost.com), we strongly suggest that you install your own instance of webmail on your account. We have 2 different programs that can be installed from your site manager site applications section (Neomail and IMP).

Neomail (http://manual.westhost.com/part7.html#neomail): This is a great webmail solution that you can install which will allow some advanced configuration such as folders and sorting. I personally like this program out of the 2 that we offer.

IMP (http://manual.westhost.com/part7.html#imp): This webmail program is actually only available for installation on accounts that have a dedicated IP address. This is the same program we use for our http://webmail.westhost.com, and it's a nice program, but without IMAP it really has limited features.

We are also currently looking into that UebiMiau program, it seems great by all accounts, and we have many clients that have installed it with great success (the URL is http://www.uebimiau.org/). The interface seems really nice, and so far we haven't found any problems with running it on our servers. Because it is a 3rd party application, we can not provide technical support for it, but if you are technically inclined, you may wish to investigate that program.

    Default IMP is SLOW

bnicolas is correct. Using IMP, it takes almost 2 minutes to delete a single message. I now have 1300 junk messages to delete. I figure it will take me the rest of this year to accomplish that in my spare time. I have not been able to use web mail for this reason.

Default Neomail Just As Slow as IMP

I just installed Neomail and it is just as slow as IMP. Absolutely horrible! With boadband, it shouldn't take a minute or more to move a message. More over, with Neomail you can't delete the message, you have to move it to trash first and then empty the trash!!

Actually, the entire Westhost Site Manager is very slow, it crawls. What we had years ago was much better. Then, I had dial up and it was faster!

    Hi Stevenson,
Uebimiau's login screen doesn't like my userid and password.
I need a little tutorial on how to configure the config file.
    I'm on webhost 2.0...

    Thanks.

I'm interested in this as well. I installed UebiMiau and get the same error "Error connecting to the server" no matter how I change the configuration. Could someone please post a correct configuration for a reference? Any idea what the problem is?

I was going to take a look at the program, but on their web site the link to the downloads page tells me I don't have permission... and I notice that the last available version is nearly two years old.

Could be that this piece of software is "past its sell-by date"???

You can download the version I use here:

    http://www.silverhealing.com/uebimia...RC1-any.tar.gz

If that version doesnt work, you probably have your config.php file wrong. If needed, AIM me at matts8008 or email me (msprinkleATsilverhealing.com) and I will send you my config and/or help you get it running. The installation is quite simple - takes me about 30 seconds to setup a new domain with its own private webmail now.
