    Default Best HTML editor

I am using PHP as main scripting language for my web development. What do you believe is the best html editor to fit wth the language. I am using Microsoft FP 2002, but it seems to be too microsoft. Does Dreamweaver have good menu structure development, like FP 2002?

Can I vote for programs that are not on the list? In terms of hand-coding-friendly programs, I think that Crimson Editor and TSW Webcoder are the best.

I've never liked Front Page becuase I also thought it was "too microsoft". The thing that kept me from getting into Dreamweaver was the cost.

I've been using AceHTML for years and have had good luck with it. Their upcomming version 6 has PHP support built in. They offer a freeware version that you could try out.

Well, thanks for the votes, the software seems pretty European to me. I never knew of these packages. If anyone wants to add editor preference, it is appreciated, I just want to find out which is the most time saving.

I really enjoy editing both HTML & PHP in HTML-Kit by Chami. It's a great editor.

Although it is uncool to say it, I've preferred GoLive as my GUI web design program. Don't hurt me. ;-) But when I am heavy into PHP or Javascript, I switch to JEdit.

Default What is wrong with GoLive

Could I ask what is wrong with GoLive?

Also the jEdit looks interesting, but I do not believe you can preview html in it. Does it highlight syntax?

Some people don't like the Golive's interface, I suppose. I find it pretty versatile, and very very gentle on the code (it respects your code, and doesn't try to force its own formatting on it).

jEdit does not preview, but it handles syntax highlighting, and other coding things very well. (Such as highlighting the range between two brackets). It also lets you have several files open at once, and let you easily switch between them, split the screen to show two or more at once, etc.

Pages made with FrontPage work great in Internet Explorer, but often contain things that are specific to Microsoft, so the won't work in other browsers. I'm a fan of HTML-kit as well. I've found that CSS is nice in studio .NET.

Quanta (and Quanta_be) are what I've changed over to using. They rock!
