Default Delete directories without deleting contents first?

Is there a way to delete a directory without having to go in and delete all the subdirectories/files first?

I know I can do it with FrontPage, but I'm reluctant to install FrontPage servers on my accounts that don't use it.

I use WS_FTP for file management. Is there a way to do it through SSH? I'm using Putty for accessing my accounts. I'm fairly comfortable in the *nix environment, although I don't use it much.

    Thanks!

    Default rm -rf

    yes, in ssh (putty) use

    Code:
    rm -rf directoryname
replace directoryname with the actual directory name. By the way, the -f means to force removal without asking, so you should use this command with caution. See the man page for other options.

    Code:
    man rm
As for ftp, I don't know.

Man, I really need to finish up my research before I post here. I found an answer to my question in the WestHost 2.0 Manual less than a minute after I posted my thread. I'll leave it up here though for anyone who has the same question...

    madia,
Ws_FTP has an option you can set to let you do this also. It may be you have to buy the pro version for this though I can't remember and I am running a pro version.

I'm sure the free version also has the "Allow deletion of non-empty directories" option somewhere - check the manual or look in options.

Just checked my pro version and under View > Options you have a pop up with Tab sections. One of them is Pro and has the option to "Allow deletion of non-empty folders" . Looks like maybe they do make you pay.

I couldn't find it using WS_FTP LE...so I will have to pay. But that's okay...it's not too much.

I'm hoping that switching to WS_FTP Pro will help with my recent problems of my uploads just stopping in the middle of a big transfer.

I'm not sure if it's my Sprint Broadband, WestHost or the WS_FTP LE, but I keep getting these blocking call cancelled errors. I'm trying to upload a fairly large amount of files for a website inventory (About 300 MB total. It's been a little frustrating.

    Anyone else experience this?

You might want to consider trying SmartFTP before you decide to pay for WS FTP Pro. It's free: http://www.smartftp.com and has lots of features (including "Allow deletion of non-empty directories"). That way you can also test if the failed uploads are due to a poor FTP program or poor connection. To be honest with you, I think it is a connection related problem - I frequently get this kind of error. But, you need to keep in mind that I am on a 56k modem in South Africa - veeeeeery far away from WestHost servers. You're on a broadband connection and I'm assuming you're in the States. Maybe it's your firewall or something? Do you have any downloads or uploads going in the background while you are running your FTP program? Oh yeah, and did you have these problems pre-2.0?

I think Fayez is correct about it being the connection. I have at times lost an upload in the middle when I try to upload all at once. As a rule I try to break things down in smaller batches. It can get really bad if there is alot of internet traffic at the time. I have always had to be careful with this even pre 2.0.
