    Default Common problems and how to solve them

    A lot of folks seem to have conversion woes, many of them with the same problems.

    Maybe you should add a forum that lists these problems and explains how to solve them.

    Another suggestion -- make sure everybody gets an EMAIL that tells them how to get their WH2 password. I stumbled on this vital piece of information totally by accident. Perhaps I didn't get the mail because it goes through WestHost forwarding?

    Other things I learned by trial and error:

    Conversion lost all my email forwards. Took me quite a while to figure out how to do forwarding in site manager. Also, I didn't remember what I had forwarded to who, so had to call a bunch of people to ask where things went.

    Change in perl address meant I had to edit every perl script I had. perl5.004 no longer works.

    mysql didn't work with perl until I installed some packages that used to be installed already. Still isn't 100% working.

    Can't access password-protected directories any more, probably because the .htaccess directories aren't pointing to the right place. New file manager doesn't work like the old one in this regard. I'm a Windows (not Linux) typet, so I don't understand exactly how they are supposed to be set up.

    A roadmap that relates the old and new directory structures would be helpful. Also, a list of directories that belong to WH1 pre-installed scripts, so I could delete them.

    i also had the email forwarding problem...the first clue was when I received no email for 2 days-not even spam! I have just spent 10 1/2 hours trying to straighten it out. I still don't have it all right, but what I did do is use the catch all to forward my mail to my ISP, but even that took awhile to figure out.

    These passwords have gotta go! There is no way I am going to remember the password that was assigned-if I am going to write it down somewhere there is no sense in even having a password. Like others I have not been able to figure out how to change the default email password.

    I joined West Host around 1998 and it was so easy! Now I am afraid to even try my ftp!

    If your site has been migrated you can assign new passwords to your additional e-mail accounts very easily. To do this, you will need to follow the below instructions:

    1. Log into your Site Manager (yourdomain.com/manager/).
    2. Click on "E-mail/FTP Management" from the top nav bar.
    3. Click the icon that looks like a pencil in a white square from the "Edit" column on the far right of the table. Make sure that you click the icon on the same row as the additional pop/ftp account you would like to edit.
    4. Enter your new password in the specified feilds.
    5. Click "Finish".

    That will only work for additional POP e-mail/FTP accounts. If you would like to change the main account password (which is also the password for yourdomain@yourdomain.com), you will need to follow the below instructions:

    1. Log into your Site Manager (yourdomain.com/manager/).
    2. Click "Site Managerment" from the top nav bar.
    3. Click "Site Parameters" from the left hand nav bar.
    4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and enter your new e-mail address twice in the specified feilds.
    5. Click "Update".

    You will need to use your new password the next time you log into your Site Manager.

    Just to clarify. If you change the password in the Site Manager it will also change the password for yourdomain@yourdomain.com?

    Just wanted to make sure I understood that. Good clear post that was the only thing I wasn't sure of.

    Shawn: If I recall correctly, changing the "root" password affects everything - the Site Manager, E-mail, SSH, FTP, etc.
