Hello! I am new here at WH.

right now my main joomla site is at /var/www/html/joomla/
I used the multisite plugin 1.0.11 from this page....
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,1411/Itemid,35/

I created a Subsite with the plugin that it placed in /var/www/html/joomla/subsite

The second site I havent bought the DNS for yet so am just testing to see if I could get multiple sites working. So now I can access both sites....
http://baliandesign.com/joomla for the first site
http://baliandesign.com/balianbooks for the subsite

but my question is - How do I go about creating a subdomain and linking it to my site - so that when someone types http://balianbooks.baliandesign.com they get the subsite? I must admit I am VERY new to the Hosting side of webdesign!

Any help is much appreciated - preferably simple step by step directions a noob like me can understand!

Thanks for any input in advance any of you have.

So heres what I just tried with no luck....

went into westhost site manager.
went to domain management,
selected my domain,
made a new subdomain with the following properties....

balianbooks.baliandesign.com directory /var/www/html/joomla/balianbooks

hit ok....

now when I go to http://balianbooks.baliandesign.com i get

SERVER NOT FOUND
firefox cant find the server at balianbooks.baliandesign.com

I can still access the site via it's hard address
http://www.baliandesign.com/joomla/balianbooks

As far as I can tell my joomla and multisite plugin are set up correctly....
here is the end of the logfile from when I set up the subsite in jooma....

Your new subsite is ready to go

Now go to the new administration panel and configure the new site

You can check the site at the address http://www.baliandesign.com/joomla/balianbooks/index.php

If you want you can configure your subdomains to point to /var/www/html/joomla/balianbooks

I thought I was on the right track but now I am discouraged :(

Does it take awhile for the subdaomain to take effect? Do I just have to wait? Is there anything else I have to do like re-start apache before the changes take effect?

any help would be much appreciated.

dustin at WH support was kind enough to point out that you do not need to fill out the entire domain just the subdomain!

so while I had

balianbooks.baliandesign.com

I should have only had

balianbooks

WH has a few old tutorials sitting around that steered me in the wrong direction. I should find the link to that again and send it to them.

Anyways it looks like I only talked to myself in this post!

I see it is now working for you. Yes sometimes a person can get something resolved before anyone sees a post and can reply. :) I am sure that WH would appreciate knowing about the old tutorial you found that was not working. It is always best to first check the current documation that is located at: http://www.helpdocs.westserver.net/sitemanager/index.htm
