View Full Version : Email delivery of WestHost Webmaster Connection Newsletter

Months ago Westhost changed the way the "WestHost Webmaster
Connection" newsletter was delivered. We used to get the full text
of the newsletter delivered via Email. Now we just get the links
delivered via Email.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find I'm not reading the
newletters much with this new system. I much prefer the full
text delivered via Email. I prefer the plain text format via email
because I can conveniently copy and paste important info as
I'm reading. It's also better to have the full text in Email because
I automatically have an archive of all the newsletters that I can
search on at a future date.

Anyone else share my views and prefer to have the full
text of the newsletters delivered via email?

Are you reading the newsletters more or less with this
new delivery system?

I am pretty sure I get the full text (unless I misunderstand you) but then again I receive them in HTML format. Do you mean the "For details go to:" links? Those seem to be used for promotions more then anything. In fact it seems that is about all the Newsletter is of recent. I am not finding it very useful and tend to do a quick scan then delete. :)

I read it and find it useful to know what upgrades are available from the Site Manager, however I find it lacking when they announce new applications.

For example, when they added Ruby on Rails they failed to explain how it might be useful to existing customers. I haven't had time to go and explore how Ruby works and so may be missing out.

Quote below is what I'm receiving via email in recent months.
I used to get the full newsletter in plain text format with
embedded links on some articles to other useful info.
I just assumed the example below is is how everyone else
is receiving it too in recnet months. Eudora v6.2 is my Email
client. --pete--

Oops! Confusing Client Connection with Webmaster Connection. Disregard my earlier comment.

It looks like you are not getting anything useful at all . Did you just post the Header ?

I too was confusing the two. :o Just to clarify for others here is the link to the WestHost Webmaster Connection (http://members.westhost.com/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi?f=list&l=wmconnection) since it does not seem to be listed anywhere at the moment on the WH (at least I could not find it). That is a whole different thing then the WestHost Client Connection which can be found archived here in the forum under the Company Info > News / Announcements section. Thought they used to be archived like WH Webmaster Connection but can't find it at the moment.

Did you just post the Header ?

No I did not post the header because it contains too much of
my personal info. The main thing I was trying to show is that
Westhost does not seem to send the newsletter anymore.
Just the links to an online version and links to unsubscribe
or subscribe. ---pete---

NO Oops! :)
I get the same problem with the Webmaster Connection newsletter.
The quote below is typically what I receive. It's bascially a blank
message with links to an online version and links to subscribe or
unsubscribe. ---pete---

I think I understand what you mean now. It is a multipart email with both the HTML and plaintext included but for some reason WH has things set up so that the plaintext version does not simply remove images and HTML formateing but gives you links to the original archive. You have your email client set to not display HTML correct?

No. My Email client (Eudora v6.2) will display HTML.

FWIW when I look at mine in plain text I see everything that I would expect to see. Using pine makes it easy to select which part of the multi-part e-mail you want to see, and when I open my mailbox up in VIM and visually scan the parts everything looks in order.

It sounds like Eudora might be unhappy with something about the way the e-mail is constructed. If you can post the full source (omitting personal details as needed) one of the problem e-mails I would be interested in seeing what it looks like.

I already did post.
That's it. No source.

One possibility, it could be that my email virus scanner (AVG v7.1 and v7.5)
has some how been interfereing with the incoming email. No that I know
you guys are receiving the full text of the newsletter I can begin to
troubleshoot. Originally, I just assumed that Westhost was not sending
it anymore. With Eudora, I never had a problem with receiving any
newsletters form any source, so i doubt it's Eudora causing the problem.

Thanks all for your inputs.
I'll post if it find anything.

Pete,

It looks like you only received part of the message. A typical multipart message looks like this:
