Hi,

I am having trouble sorting product items. I am able to sort product items under categories within the management system. The items that have been sorted do not reflect their new order on the store pages. Does anyone have a suggestion?? Am I just overlooking something??

Thanks in advance!

Hi Again,

More investigation leads to more questions. I talked to Miva and they said " This is a problem and we are working on it " Their solution is to export the data to a flat file, make the edits and the import. I am o.k. with this for now. My issue as a newbe is that they tell you that your exported .dat flat file gets sent to the Merchant5/s01/export/filename.dat directory. I can't find this location on the server. Does anyone know the parent directories to this location? I have never exported any data before, does this directory string only get created upon exporting data?

Thanks in advance.

Kim

If I recall correctly, the data directory is located in your home folder, which isn't accessible from the web. Check: /home/yourusername/htsdata.

Thanks for the response. Where do I find this home folder? Sorry just don't know what exactly you are refering to.

Thanks!

Sorry, you should be able to access that directory if you connect to your VPS with an FTP client (http://members.westhost.com/filezilla.html). I'm not entirely sure, but you may also be able to get there using the File Manager (http://members.westhost.com/file-manager.html).

Hi,

Still having trouble sorting. I am trying the work around method. Export to a flat file .dat, edit and import the changes. I am able to edit pricing and see results in the store, but am unable to affect the order of the products. Any clues????

Thanks in advance!

When you import, be sure to select the option "Replace Existing Products". If that doesn't work, then you'll have to delete the products in your store, and then import them. (Be sure to make another backup of all of your products before you do this.)

Thanks so much. That really helped. I had a successful reorder of products. My only problem is that no matter which way I chose to export I could not get MIVA to export the category name in the data file. My first import sent all the data into the general products area. I had to edit the export file to add the category name. I could see this is being a real pain on a large category. Any Ideas?? PS, I did try each type of export.

Hello,

There's an option to include the category codes called "Include Category List". If you've already selected this, and it isn't working, make sure you're either replacing the export file (if it exists), or you're exporting the data to a file with a different name. It might also help if you enable the option to include field headers, "Export Field Names as Header". With field headers enabled, you'll be able to easily identify what each column of data is for.

Here are the manual pages for exporting data with Miva Merchant.
Version 5 manual (http://docs.smallbusiness.miva.com/en-US/merchant/5/webhelp/export_products_to_a_flat_file.htm)
Version 4 manual (with pictures) (http://docs.smallbusiness.miva.com/en-US/merchant/4/webhelp/export_data_to_a_flat_file.htm)

Thanks again. The Miva 4 info looks very comprehensive. This may help. I appreciate this very much.
