View Full Version : subdomain setup not working

08-29-2006, 10:13 AM
I have followed the proper instruction of setting up a subdomain and I keep getting the error message - " /var/www/html/subdomain does not exist."

In Site manager, I went to Domain Management and then clicked my domain. Once there, I clicked New. I entered "subdomain" in the top field and "/var/www/html/subdomain" in the bottom field.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

The error message in this case holds the clue: "/var/www/html/subdomain does not exist". In order for a subdomain or even a secondary domain to be pointed to a specific directory on your VPS, the directory will first need to exist. Thus if you'd like to create a subdomain (or secondary domain) that has its own contents rather than the default /var/www/html , first create the folder on your VPS, then go ahead and setup the subdomain (or secondary domain) to point to that directory.

As clarification for subdomain vs. secondary domain:
subdomain examples:
info.domain.com, members.domain.com, mysite.domain.com, etc.

secondary domain examples:
domain.com, thisismydomain.com, anotherdomain.com, etc.
