Hi,

I have a domain that is managed through the VPS.

Let's call it domain1.com.

I also have my brother's commercial site hosted on my VPS, let's call that domain2.com.

I want my mail for domain1.com to be handled by a different server, so I changed my Main MX entry for domain1.com. For domain2.com I'm not sure where I edit the MX entries for it, as everything seems to be controlled by domain1.com in the VPS.

Or by changing the MX record for domain1.com has it also changed it for domain2.com to the same?

If I use dnsreport.com to view the mail MX records for domain1.com and domain2.com they are the same. I don't understand how this works.

If I try and add a new DNS record for an MX record in the Manager it automatically appends domain1.com to the end.

Please advise.

Regards,
Robert

Robert,

It seems like there are only a few of us with that dilemma. Here is another solution I found--get a different domain registrar. I usually go with GoDaddy.com b/c it's cheap, but for $4 more per year, SimpleURL.com allows maintenance of BOTH DNS and MX records, IIRC. I used them years ago and seem to recall that they had this functionality. Their site is a bit "stripped down" and not as fancy as most registrars, but I hosted 3 domains there for a few years with no problems. I switched to GoDaddy because the interface was better/easier and the cost was less. Unfortunately, with GoDaddy there is no way to change the MX records unless you have your web hosting through them.

HTH. If you come up with any other solutions, please let me know! I'm going to try transferring a site registry entry to SimpleURL.com and see if that solves the problem.

Multiple MX Records are available, however they need to be requested to be set up (as there isn't a current option for it in the Site Manager). If you're looking to have the MX Record be different for different domains on the same VPS account, please submit a support ticket via http://members.westhost.com/contactus.html and specify exactly what you'd like done for the different domains as well as the current Site Manager login information for verification. We'll get it set up for you as soon as we can.
