Have any of you used lighttpd (http://lighttpd.net/)? I'm doing a website as a personal project so I'm not tied to any particular platform or software (yet).

Well since I don't have a sig I can't followup Andromeda's inane publicity stunt with a "me either", so I'll respond to you Tom. New to me too so I followed the link (Duh!).

Looks interesting. I'm a complete novice regarding VPS, but I still think it's basically shared - you just have your own processes. When a connection is made to a particular port can Appache launch a seperate webserver to handle it or is it more-less going to spawn a copy of (or portion thereof) itself? I bet the latter. Of course I'm an Appache novice too.

So I have my doubts this could be used on WH.

I should have provided more details. I don't plan on running it (my project) on WestHost at all. It will probably be on a default install of some yet-to-be-determined Linux distro. It will probably be in PHP, although Ruby on Rails has caught my interest recently. I was wondering if I could get better performance or any other benefits from lighttpd than apache.
