Since I upgraded to Miva 5 I have had to manually import many of my items and settings... But that's a whole other story.
My issue is i have set the cat tree categories to use custom images (just like in Miva4), everything seems to work fine except that after every image for the category, there is a dash " - " that is a link. It seems like there is an extra blank space after the image so that it shows a " - " after the image and it's a link to the same thing the image is a link too. Not that it is causing any problems but it just looks ghetto and unfinished.
An example is http://www.proaudiogear4less.com/p-at_atw202.html .
You'll notice the 3 main categories have the blue dash after the images that are the same links as the image. If anyone knows how to get around or fix this problem please let me know.
BTW, I have purchased the Sebenza Category Tree Template Version 5, installed after this issue, tweaked around with it a bit, but the problem is still there and I don;t think that cat tree template mod has any effect on that anyways.

As always, any help or ideals are welcome! Thanks!

In some browsers (like firefox) this is caused by the closing anchor tag being on a newline after the image.

Example

<a href="example"><img src="test.jpg">
</a>

If MM5 allows you to customize the way it generates the cat tree list, you can fix it by changing the code to look like this

<a href="example"><img src="test.jpg"></a>

While looking at your site I also noticed a couple of other things.

1: The images you've included in your global header are not using relative paths. This will cause a customer's browser to throw a warning message whenever they enter a secure section of your site. It will also result in the secure lock/key icon displayed in many browsers to be broken, or appear with a line through it.

You can fix this by changing the image paths from this:

<img src="http://www.proaudiogear4less.com/images/head_4_7_2004.gif" alt="blah blah" border="0" height="116" width="800">

to this

<img src="../images/head_4_7_2004.gif" alt="blah blah" border="0" height="116" width="800">

2: All of the images displayed by Merchant (like the product images) are being pulled through the secure server. This may or may not impact the performance of your shop, but if you don't want it to do this, you can learn how to disable this behavior by going here
(http://forums.westhost.com/showthread.php?t=8092).

Thank you very much for the great and helpful info!
It seems that miva 4.24 was much easier to manipulate, no wwith the miva 5 version it seems I need to learn some new things.
Do you know how I can edit the above cat tree and images? It seems I have no html control over the cat tree in miva 5. However, I did purchase a miva 5 mod from Sebenza called "Category tree Template" the mod name is SS_CATTREE. The documentation is minimal and seems completely useless to all except the advanced miva guru's.
If you have any suggestions, links to docs or anything to help out I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again for the great info!

Judging from the picture and description -- I couldn't find a manual or usage instructions -- on MivaCentral , that module should allow you to change the way Merchant inserts its links.

I don't use MM5 or that module (obviously), but it doesn't look like it should be that much trouble to fix your links. If moving the closing tag onto the same line as the image doesn't work, you can also create a style class for the category anchors and make the link color the same as the background, which would at least mask the trailing character.
