View Full Version : DNS Change..how long can it possibly take to initiate?

I realize it can take 24-48 hours for a DNS change to propagate.

How long can it possibly take to initiate said DNS change? All I want to confirm is that it *has* been initiated. Is it actually hard to do?

I just keep getting the "pass the buck" excuse.

'Hold on...I'll transfer you to accounts.'

'We've passed it on to our system administrator and it should be in process'

I've got an antsy client with a postcard campaign to announce the new website tomorrow morning. I didn't realize it would take them so long to initiate the change. I thought for sure it would take less than a day to initiate.

You can check whether WH dns has been updated by looking up on there servers, e.g.:

$ dig @ns1.west-datacenter.net somedomain.com

this will tell you if their name servers have been corrected.
