To the people making a living out of site designing, how much would you say is a fair rate for the following.

Client says make me a website to sell my products. Client hands you a box with 40 products and says go for it.

So you make 5 regular HTML pages, do logo and graphic work yourself, do all paperwork to set up merchant account for client, add Miva cart with the 40 products for which you are responsible for finding images and hand writing the products details for all of them since client just gave you box of products. Client gave no detail of how they wanted it, you had to come up with all the copy and page ideas for them. And then they want you to take care of setting up online advertising, like adwords or overture and making sure the site is linked to from product vendor and industry related sites. And then upload all the items to Froogle.

Whatchya think? Thanks! In U.S. dollars.

Sounds to me like you kinda got taken for a ride there.

As for cost $1500 minimum or $40 - $50 per hour if you have the time spent on it logged somewhere.
