My scenario is this, i successfully pointed www.abc.com to another ip which is hosting the site, while i remain the emails with WH. So when people type in abc.com they come to the old site that is hosted with WH.Can i change that abc.com to point to the external site too while remaining the email hosting with WH ?

There are really only three ways to do this-- first is to use 3rd party name servers that you have control over. For example, you can go to http://zoneedit.com and sign up for their service. Last time I checked you could manage 5 domain names for free (and with no hassle).

The second way to do this is to have WestHost make a custom DNS change for your account. It will probably prevent the 'Domain Management' portion of your Site Manager from working, but if this is all you need then that may not be a big deal. It probably isn't supported, but can likely be done.

The last way to do this is to use something like mod_rewrite or a 301 redirect to automatically direct traffic to http://abc.com to http://www.abc.com. Here is a forum thread that describes how to do this:

This is an outdated post, but someone had a problem w/ this today so let me update!

All you have to do is setup a new "A" (address) DNS Record.

go to Domain Management -> DNS Records -> New DNS Record

Select "A" address and input the subdomain and IP address.
