I'm looking into what it takes to create an Excel compatible spreadsheet using PHP. I am not asking for others to do a Google search for me; I am just wondering if anyone is doing this, and recommends a certain product over others. The solution does not need to be a 'free' solution.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Where is your data coming from?

It could come from a posted form (current setup) or (hopefully in the semi-near future) a mySQL database.

It is much easier to create a CSV file and then load/convert it in Excel.

Ahh - good tip. KISS (Keep It Simple..). I might just go this route for the time being, much easier to do.

The Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer (http://pear.php.net/package/Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer) might be what you're looking for.

Tom,

I wondered about that, however WestHost won't touch pear on our domain (support ticket), and I'm not familiar with it enough to know whether I have all that is needed.

Hi,

Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer is indeed nice to generate Excel files with PHP. But how about existing excel workbooks?
Apparently there is no way to modify an existing file with Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer...

Thanx for your help.
