HHello all,

I want to manage a protected area of my site but I don't like using the ‘.htaccess’ files to do it.

Here is the scenario. I have a sub-folder 'siteadmin' that I want protected. So initially I created the '.htaccess' file with a password that was the same as my admin user password. Then sometime later I change my admin user password in the WH manager (e.g. http://www.codehooligans.com/manager). Problem now is I have to also change my password in the ‘.htaccess’.

What I desire is a way to authenticate my admin (and any other user defined for my site using the same password used by WH.

Is this possible?

You should be able to direct your .htaccess to the same .htpasswd file that WH is using. If you look at the .htaccess file in /cgi-bin/fm I belive you well see how to do this. The .htpasswd file that is directed at is the one with your admin user and password in it.
