View Full Version : Early Friday: sites down again

01-09-2004, 05:24 AM
It's early Friday morning. I just turned in a ticket. My two sites are down again, although they had been up just a few minutes ago.

Network status again shows fine. Sounds like it might be related to the same problem as yesterday afternoon.

01-09-2004, 05:28 AM
Yup, mine down too.

01-09-2004, 05:29 AM
Yes it figures, I was 90% put out of business in Sept. I stuck around, but i just invested in a lot of advertising for thsi weekend.

I cannot believe this is happening again.

01-09-2004, 05:46 AM
Same here. I can't believe this. My site was down last night for over 2 hours and now again.

Westhost I slowy get tired of your service. Last year I had so much trouble with your upgrade and my site was down for the longest time, but I stayed and that's the thanks now.

01-09-2004, 05:49 AM
Network status for a few minutes showed lots of downs. Now Network status shows all's well. But it's not. My two sites are still down.

Somebody from Westhost want to jump in and give us an update?

01-09-2004, 05:51 AM
I have 3 sites still down.......it's deja vu all over again.

Keep your Christmas cards and give me service. I am gasping!!!

01-09-2004, 06:01 AM
I have three sites here and they've all gone down. Hopefully this doesn't last too long.

01-09-2004, 06:03 AM
my site was also down yesterday 40min
and now again :D
I am happy to see this forum, it helps a lot to know this is not a particular problem :D not kidding !
by the way - I am a newbie - Does one know how to notice such "downs" on any report ?

01-09-2004, 06:04 AM
Add two more to the list of sites down this morning. No wesbite and no email ... Any status updates on why this is so?

01-09-2004, 06:12 AM
6 sites down again, yesterday it was blamed on a hardware failure, they may have been looking in the wrong place? not a good way to start the new year.

01-09-2004, 06:16 AM
by the way - I am a newbie - Does one know how to notice such "downs" on any report ?

I don't know of any report that lists down times. The only automated option I've heard of is subscribing with a monitoring company.

Is there another way?
Anyone use a monitoring service?

01-09-2004, 06:17 AM
I've got 8 site that are down. A combo of WH1 and WH2 sites.

01-09-2004, 06:27 AM
My site is down as well. This is absurd. I just moved to WestHost recently -- should I expect this? I thought there was redundancy here? What is their policy on reimbursement for downtime (no amount of $ reimbursement is going to make me happy now, but there certainly should be some).

01-09-2004, 06:39 AM
Mmm... From here in AUS, I was having troubles getting my packets through Alter.Net and MCI (two different providers), and thought it was our International links giving up the ghost (come on, I know we're far away, and our net connections aren't *that* great, but our International links aren't too bad.

... have to wait and see the aftermath when whatever has gone wrong is fixed.

By the way, Thanks WestHost for placing your own website on a different network so we can get to the forums and confirm that there are troubles (as lines are busy at the moment).

01-09-2004, 06:39 AM
I feel I have been pretty patient with WestHost. I've calmed my clients and talked up WestHost's services through the debacle last summer. Now my client's websites down again for a second time in less than 24 hours. My phone is ringing off the hook and I look like an idiot for backing WestHost. I'm losing reputation as well as $$. Hello?! Is anyone besides us in desperation reading this?

01-09-2004, 06:42 AM
Yep same here... looks like eveyone is down. No schedualed downtime I just checked the Announcements page. Hopefully they get them back up soon. I even checked some other users sites that I have been visiting and they are down also so must be the whole system. I am not going to submit a ticket yet on the assumtion that they are aware of something so wide spread.

01-09-2004, 06:50 AM
And we're back online :)

01-09-2004, 06:51 AM
I'm not back up yet.. must be doing something in stages.

01-09-2004, 06:56 AM
I'm now back up and running all three sites. Let's hope we don't have this problem again.

01-09-2004, 06:58 AM
My sites and email were down for 1-2 hours yesterday afternoon and now they've been down for over an hour and a half . . . oop, they just came back up.

I urge Westhost to post a reply to threads like this to indicate they’re aware of and working on the problem and hopefully give a guess when it will be fixed.

01-09-2004, 06:59 AM
also back !!! THANKS !!!! :D :D :D

01-09-2004, 06:59 AM
Back up here on all accounts.

01-09-2004, 07:00 AM
Previously couldn't get through to wdc-core01-vlan100.west-datacenter.net, but now is fine and the spam just flows through.

As noted in a post in this thread - to have this happen twice to me poses questions about the redundancy plans. Whilst it has been resolved (relatively) quickly, aren't there other ways for WestHost to prevent this.

I'm not too sure how major routing like this works, but theoretically, it should be (relatively) easy to route data through a secondary provider if preferred provider is suffering an outage or issues to maintain the excellent service that WH offer?

Just throwing this in the pot (not stirring).

My Sites are still down. Is anyone on wdclnx05 up?

01-09-2004, 07:03 AM
I am still down - now for over 2 hours!

01-09-2004, 07:08 AM
Our site is down too (wdclnx03).

01-09-2004, 07:15 AM
I had someone contact me telling me that they could get to my site. Well, I still cannot. I believe there must be routing issues still, and that depending on the route you take to get there, you may or may not get through. I still cannot reach some of your sites that posted that they're back up (wildjokerdesign, etc)..

01-09-2004, 07:18 AM
I still cannot reach some of your sites that posted that they're back up (wildjokerdesign, etc)..

That's 'cause they've gone back down again.

Hello, West Host. Speak to us.

01-09-2004, 07:21 AM
I was up both site and email for about 10 minutes now down again....it's Sept all over again.
This time I dont think I can afford to hang around.

01-09-2004, 07:25 AM
Our site is also down and no email system. Thought it was my DSL but see it is a Westhost problem. Hopefully all will be up and running soon!

01-09-2004, 07:26 AM
Westhost, Please consider giving your clients secondary MX on the network you host your own website.

01-09-2004, 07:31 AM
Yes, Exactly the same thing like in September.
1. Site down
2. No explantions
3. No live chat
4. No customer support - phone
5. No replies on support emails

I can remember when westhost had the big upgrade and we had only problems - they told us to stick around we would not be dissapointed

01-09-2004, 07:31 AM
same for me :? back and down again
really this forum here helps, and the support, thanks !
:D hope we get everything all right soon

01-09-2004, 07:32 AM
Not too sure how WH are located, but maybe the support ppl are sitting in the data-center and can't get net access either?
hence why no live support or email reply?

01-09-2004, 07:33 AM
I'm up now.. hopefully for good..

01-09-2004, 07:39 AM
We'reback up and running! Thanks Westhost!!!!!

01-09-2004, 07:52 AM
We're also back up.

01-09-2004, 07:56 AM

Hi all!

We apologize for not getting to the forums sooner. The same problem that we got yesterday was the same thing that hit us this morning. Our technicians are working to resolve this problem, your websites should be running correctly now.

If you still experience problems, submit a ticket to us. Again we apologize for the inconvenience.

The same problem that we got yesterday was the same thing that hit us this morning

Same problem. Don't tell us that. Tell us WHAT THE PROBLEM was/is, not that it is the SAME.

Get with the program WH. Comp us for downtime.

I posted what had happened on the other thread. This is a statement from one of our senior technicians.

"This afternoon, one of our main internet routers had a hardware failure. Unfortunately, it was only a partial failure, so the redundant systems were seeing that everything was fine. The bad router has been taken offline and the internet routing tables are slowly updating to redirect all traffic through the alternate paths. Everything is quickly returning to normal."
