View Full Version : Two sites hosted are down

I use Westhost to host two sites. Both are down.

I just re-checkd and see now the Network Status is showing lots of problems with top 8 of the wdclnx servers

Guess these guys know it and are (hopefully) pulling their hair out to fix it.

Same here. I just sent in a ticket. Our site's on wdclnx3, and it looks like the whole server's down. Not even responding to pings.

Oddly enough, I'm not seeing anything wrong on the Network Status page.

I had turned in a ticket too. The Network Status page then changed and showed all servers up. But....my two sites were still down.

NOW, happily, they are back up, a few minutes later.

Dylan, hope yours is on its way up soon, too.

My site is still down, even though Network Status shows everything is up.

dylan, with WH2, how can you tell what server you are on?

01-08-2004, 03:25 PM
When you log in to yourdomain.com/manager, it'll forward you to a URL on the main server (ours goes to

thanks, are you back yet, i'm still down

01-08-2004, 03:28 PM
Nope, still waiting. Been refreshing here constantly to see if I can find out what's going on. :)

01-08-2004, 03:30 PM
I get a ping from for you,
but I don't ping out on our static IP

01-08-2004, 03:31 PM
How about

01-08-2004, 03:31 PM
additionally, I get a "Connection Refused" instead of the usual timeout browser warning, maybe they are moving things around w/o telling us or they are having a wierd problem.

My site www.zestgourmet.com has been down for several hours now... But, Weshost shows the network status as no problems???

01-08-2004, 03:32 PM
.35 yes, and I am getting good times to it. Perhaps there is a routing, or even a no-WH issue going on. But I doubt it.

I'm finally back up..

We are aware of the problems and we are working hard to getting everything fixed. I do not know all the exact details of what is happening, but the technicians have assured me that everything should be back up very soon. As soon as I find out any further information, I will be back here to post!

well thanks Matt, but I understand going down for a brief period, but downtime measure a close to an hour is UNACCEPTABLE for a host.

01-08-2004, 04:01 PM
What causes the network status to show that there aren't any problems, when sites are down?

01-08-2004, 04:03 PM
well thanks Matt, but I understand going down for a brief period, but downtime measure a close to an hour is UNACCEPTABLE for a host.

I have to agree... The duration of this downtime, coupled with the lack of details and contact from Westhost is reminiscent of the Upgrade fiasco.

I also have to mention that I have never once in the last year received a ticket number or response from Westhost using their contact form. I understand that they were overwhelmed during their "upgrade", but I expected that they would have fixed their ticketing system by now. It is now January 10th, and even though my site is back up I never received a response on my ticket and my email still occasionaly says unexpectadly terminated by server. I stuck through the mess in September (with no refunds, mind you), but my patience is wearing thin. I run an online store and downtime is not an option. I have lost both sales and customers due to the lack of service... one of my new resolutions is to find a new host...

I got some information. This is from one of our senior technicians:

"This afternoon, one of our main internet routers had a hardware failure. Unfortunately, it was only a partial failure, so the redundant systems were seeing that everything was fine. The bad router has been taken offline and the internet routing tables are slowly updating to redirect all traffic through the alternate paths. Everything is quickly returning to normal."

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Thanks for the information; it looked kind of like a DNS problem when I noticed. Glad to see it's resolved!

same here, our site has been down since about 5pm eastern yesterday. the site doesn't worry me as much as not being able to retrieve email!!! i can understand problems and a little bit of downtime, but 16 hours is just unacceptable. i submitted a ticket, no response yet...and i've been on hold for about an hour now this morning. that's after about a half-hour of busy signals.

I have three sites down for hours now. They are pointing to www.yeah.com.

wired - I've been having the same problems

then my sites were working for all of 2 minutes - ehough time to rattle of an email to all my clients telling them the sites were up - then all sites became unavailabe again :(

P.s. why isn't there a smilly for a man weeping and clawing at the ground - or perhaps knasking teeth

this probably isn't the best time to use that tagline

Man, what happened to west host last night?

How long were those sites down?

I got a reseller account with 4 sites on it now and they were all down. My phone was definitely ringing this morning.
