I am trying to install the Net:DNS module but I am a bit lost. I have the zipped file but not sure where I am supposed to upload it to and then unzip it. I don't think this is already there since I tried find and it did not seem to find it. I have the insturctions that came with it for installing but just don't know which directory I am supposed to start the process in.

Guess I need a bit of hand holding. :)

Ok here is what I ended up doing and things seemed to work. I uploaded the tar.gz that I had to /usr/local and then did a guzip and then a untar on it and it created a directory with the files in it under /usr/local/Net-DNS-0.42 I then went in and followed the install instructions that came with the zip package. It did complain about not finding Digest::HMAC_MD5 but it did compleate the install.

I needed this for a cgi script from geektools that does a whois lookup. I am sure that someone is going to say "Oh you already have a program on the server that will do that" :) I did see whois stuff and such in some of the directories when I was on the search but was not sure what thier use was.

So the geektools script works and I am pretty pleased to have used SSH without takeing down my site.

I do have one question and I don't know if this depends on the perl modul that is installed or not but can I know delete the /usr/local/Net-DNS-0.42 directory that was created when I unzipped it? I know that the install wrote a ton of stuff to other areas but I don't belive it wrote anything new in that directory. Figure why have junk on the server I don't need.

Best Not , if what you installed is DNS - Perl DNS Resolver Module it creates a number of empty directories, the documentation is not real clear on what the purpose is but if you really want to know you can contact the creator of the program Michael Fuhr at mike@fuhr.org.

Of course these guys are notorious for responding within months, last time I asked a question the response took so long I forgot why I asked it.
