View Full Version : Email from WHMLM being bounced to root

I sent out a newsletter to everyone in our mailing list today; this is the first time in about a month. The newsletter's registered to webmaster@shavonne.com in WestHost Mailing List Manager (which means that's what appears in the From field). As usual, we had several email addresses bounce, but instead of coming back to webmaster@shavonne.com, it looks like they went to root@shavonne.com. Sending to the root account returned a permission denied error so they were eventually sent back to our main email account for the domain.

What I'm wondering is, why did the errors (mailbox not found, mailbox full, etc.) bounce back to root, and is there any way to fix this?

I can post full headers if necessary, but I thought this might be the cause. It's a portion of the headers from the original email:
Received: from shavonne.com (shavonne.com [69.36.167.35]) by rly-xc03.mx.aol.com (v96.8) with ESMTP id MAILRELAYINXC33-d53f7b3971393; Wed, 01 Oct 2003 16:30:41 -0400

The best I can tell, AOL Postmaster pulled "root@localhost" from the headers, replaced localhost with our domain, and used that for its bounce address.
