I have done much searching and yet to no avail. Does anyone know where I could find some Miva Merchant Modules to allow for instance, order tracking (status tracking) and coupon managers. I'm looking for free but a small fee (less than 10 dollars would probably also be acceptable). Let me know.. Thanks.....

A few good sites to look for miva modules are:

http://mvcool.com
http://vikingcoders.com

If you can't find anything at those sites, you can check the site http://www.pixelcomposer.com/mivaresource/modules.html. There are no actual modules at that site, but there are links to other sites that do have modules there. I hope this helps.

These guys:

http://www.jmhonline.net/mivamerchantmodules/

offer custom work, and the largest listing of available modules for Miva Merchant, that I have found.

I have them working on some custom scripts for my site (at VERY decent prices), and they "threw in" some very valuable scripts for FREE!

I have not, however, found anything for free order tracking for Miva - I recently purchased StoneEdge Order Manager (right at $700). It is pricey (for our budget  ) but it has saved many headaches.

There are a few other people with modules, but Jason at http://www.jmhonline.net/mivamerchantmodules/ has links to most of the bigger developers. The Miva user list (www.miva.com) is also a great resource if you need a certain module.

Hope that helps,

Okay, so I am going to resurrecting this topic. Does anyone know anything about OpenUI and it's installation? Is this something that WestHost would be willing to provide as a part of its accounts? Also does WestHost, even though I already know this answer, offer any modules for Miva Merchant? Is this a possibility of getting added to our packages?

Hello Everyone,

Right now we don't offer any modules for Miva Merchant but it is another thing that we are looking into. Right now this doesn't come with any of our packages but it is something that we are looking into adding.

Which modules are you looking at adding? How long till that could possibly become a reality?

dahj,

This is something that is in the beginning of the planning stages. We have done enough research to know if this is something that we are going to offer yet. We have no time-table, as soon as I get confirmed information, I will pass it on.

Thank!

does anyone have a "spare" copy of open UI basic????
want to fix "look and feel" of my cart to integrate into website
-- has anyone tested/used open UI and will it do what i'm talking about??
thanks for help - am going a little crazy learning logic of miva!!!! :-)
i'm currently using buy it now buttons linked to server cart/merchant account and it works so nice with simple html inserted boxes, would love miva to work same, just as back office processor?? your ideas are appreciated...

You can't share OpenUI it has an activation reg code. It is about $35.00 and a good deal concidering what it can do. You also get updates with it.

hi anne, thanks for OpenUI recommendation.

****OpenUI:
would OpenUI allow me to totally integrate my miva store into my existing website? e.g., look exactly the same as my web, including borders (that's how I have my web navigation)????

****Discount:
does anyone know how to add a discount to "customers": e.g., i give my customers a 10% discount if they are a member of a trade organization and in Miva I have only managed to get it to apply the price group discount to products, which results in the discounted price coming up on products page! my old cart allowed a field for customers to enter a code/coupon, such as "trade" and it would automatically deduct the discount from the total??

thanks for all feedback...........

You have to buy a coupon code module to apply discounts like that, and to buy the coupon code module you have to first buy the OpenUI module. I am just starting out with Miva and was hoping to have the same ability.

Looks like Miva can get pretty expensive for some basic features offered by some of the free carts out there which i find quite peculiar. Now, I'm trying to figure out what the real advantages are of Miva over other carts, other that I can get some support from Westhost if I'm having issues.

Miva can get very very expensive. If you are looking for a cheap shopping cart system Miva is not your answer. On the other hand you can buy modules for it that can do almost anything. Most Miva modules are easy to install.

I am thinking of using Miva for my entire site, but I want my site to look the way I want it and perform well in Google. Can I do this with just a minimum number of extra modules?

I want control of the look of my main pages (welcome, category and products pages mainly), and I want these pages to be SEO friendly. Esp. Google friendly.

I would be open to an alternative to Miva, but so far it makes sense to use Miva since Westhost is providing it for us.

Thanks,

Andy Gray

A quick follow up to my own question:

I want control over how the site looks, don't want to create separate mirror pages, and I want the site to be SEO friendly.

At this point, I'm wondering if SEO links (from PixelComposer) plus OpenUI (and perhaps VikingCoders Storefront Templates) will accomplish all of the above.

SEO links is supposed to change the key links throughout the site to simple page.html links -- which they say will help the site get indexed and receive greater weight in Google.

Thanks again for any input I can get here.

Generally speaking, it's entirely possible to manipulate the entire look of your store using nothing other than the headers and footers for each "screen". It really depends on what exactly you had in mind, but with a little ingenuity, clever coding, and some patience, you can make-do without any third party modules.

At this point, I'm wondering if SEO links (from PixelComposer) plus OpenUI (and perhaps VikingCoders Storefront Templates) will accomplish all of the above.

I'd recommend you wait until the new version of Merchant (v5) is released. I believe it's scheduled to be released the first week of May.

Amongst the updated features, it'll include an extensive template system that supposedly allows you to edit every "screen". Their template system also allows for use of tokens, much like OpenUI, which allows you to include various data dynamically.

This is, of course, assuming WestHost plans to adopt the new version shortly after it's released.

SEO links is supposed to change the key links throughout the site to simple page.html links -- which they say will help the site get indexed and receive greater weight in Google.

This may help in getting Google to index your entire store faster, but I'm not sure if it'll make any difference in the placement your store's pages receive.

That said, I've never had to change or install anything to get Google to index my store, and they've been faithfully spidering it for several years now.

Furthermore, you should add your products to Google's Froogle. They often return a few Froogle links with their regular search results. These links are located above the regular results, and give you a second chance to appear on the first page of results. It's a nice service, it's free, and I've received quite a few leads from it.

I would be open to an alternative to Miva, but so far it makes sense to use Miva since Westhost is providing it for us.

Popular alternatives are osCommerce and Zen-Cart (which I believe is based on osCommerce). They're both free, they both have active online communities, and they both have an extensive library of free modules.

Hope that helps.
