View Full Version : Selling your primary domain name. Keeping secondary domains on same account...?

Someone is interested in buying my domain name, let's call it abc.com.

This is the first site I started at WH, so my login is abc@abc.com and all billing etc is associated with that domain name.

I also have sites def.com and ghi.com running from the same hosting account. I want to keep these running off the same hosting account. (I'm not sure if I'm on WH2.0 or 3.0, but definitely not the latest.)

Looking at the site manager admin page it looks like abc.com is set in stone. Would the WH admins be able to change the primary domain to def.com? Would they be able to propagate this to the billing department, etc?

Basically, I'd like to know if this is going to be a major hassle or has it been done many times before?

I can certainly handle SSHing in as abc@def.com - no need to change my username.

many thanks!

I don't think it is going to be an issue really. Domains are pointed to a server via DNS and the registrar. Once you transfer ownership to them they will simply point the domain where ever they want to. The best thing to do would be to use the form at http://members.westhost.com/contactus.html to contact Westhost so you can give them specifics of your domain just to be sure.

Hi Taza,

We can definitely have the main domain changed on your account. You'll need to go to this page in order to get that done:

https://corp2.westhost.com/domainchange/

You can also, as wildjoker stated, send a ticket into us here: http://members.westhost.com/contactus.html, if you have any other questions.
