View Full Version : Problems installing PYG

I just installed Purpleyin guestbook and it is working except the turing protection. I get a black bar where the jumbled type should be. Any idea what I did wrong? I installed Arial in macbinary, but don't know about truetype support. Any help is appreciated.

Here is a link to the TrueType Wikipedia page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrueType

You might need to download a TrueType font but you might have a problem finding Arial if the program specifically uses only that font. http://www.openfontlibrary.org/

You might be able to grab the font from the link at the bottom of this wikipedia page.

Sorry to keep adding on but I keep finding more. :) Purple Yin requires the FreeType Library for Captcha. http://www.freetype.org/ Now if you installed this via Site Manager I would think that this should have been taken care of, unless the WestHost version does not support Captcha. It would be something to check on.

Thanks, Shawn. And thanks for all you effort. Purple Yin comes with the Arial font, which I downloaded to my site. I also installed captcha and PHP 4.4.9. I know PYG works on Westhost sites, as I have been through all the forums and many are positive comments - but this problem does seem to come up a bit.

If I could find some documentation on captcha, I may just make my own guestbook. But the link to the captcha help pages didn't work either. Not my day, I guess.

Here is the link to my troubled guestbook sign in page:

Thanks again, it would be great if I could get this resolved.

found Captcha documentation. Don't know if that will work with a guestbook ... will do more research. Still no resolution to the turing protection, though.

Actually, it appears you did not. You must upload the file arial.ttf into the PYG1.1.2 directory. You can grab arial.ttf from the C:\Windows\Fonts folder, or you can grab any other TrueType font from a site like http://www.fontsquirrel.com/ and then name it arial.ttf. Note that the file system is case-sensitive.

I've enabled PHP logging for you. Watch the file /var/log/php for PHP errors.

As a side note, you can utilize http://recaptcha.net/ for an easy way to add CAPTCHAs to your website (e.g., if you were making your own guestbook).

Thanks so much, Nick & Shawn. What you did, fixed the problem and it seems to be working now. I thought I had the true type font in the PY folder, and reloaded it this morning and all is well.

Many, many thanks!

And I'll be checking out the captcha site you recommended, as I eventually want to build my own guestbook.

Thanks again
