View Full Version : Formmail - No verification file

When I run example.html that gets installed when I activate Formmail and then enter the 4 character verification code I get a "no file found for verification." The help desk says this is a bug. I suspect I just do not know how to create the proper file. Does anyone know?

You can see information for using the captcha verification file in the online documentation for the FormMail captcha application at:

It was a bug, I couldn't catch what was going on (or what to fix it) before their development team squashed the bug.

I've had a problem with this, too, which I can not figure out. I set up Formmail 1.92 Captcha from the WH site manager on one of my clients' accounts, and it worked perfectly when I tested it. Then, a week or so later, suddenly upon submitting the form, a screen with the text "No file found for verification" appeared. This happened every time I submitted the form.

I removed all captcha-related code from the form, and the same thing happened. I un-installed and re-installed Formmail from the WH site manager, and it made no difference.

I finally had to manually delete the formmail directory from the cgi-bin and upload a fresh install of formmail 1.92 WITHOUT captcha from MSA's web site by hand in order to get email forms to work again.

Can anyone explain to me what's going on here? I could not find any help for this issue in the WH help files linked above.

Well, I know when you visit a page with a captcha, it creates a file (the name is the IP address that is visiting the site) in /tmp/captcha for it. You may want to make sure /tmp/captcha exists and that it has 777 permissions on it (just to be safe).
that is the only thing I can think that would cause that...

I just upgraded to captcha and got the "no verification file" error. I changed the single quotes as shown in the example to double quotes and it worked!

The example file used this:

<tr><td>Verification Code:<br />
<img src='/cgi-bin/formmail/captcha.cgi'>
</td><td><input type='text' name='verifytext'></td></tr>

I changed it to:

<tr><td>Verification Code:<br />
<img src="/cgi-bin/formmail/captcha.cgi">
</td><td><input type='text' name="verifytext"></td></tr>
