View Full Version : Wordpress url rewriting problem

I have been having trouble getting Wordpress (set up through the install script in the control panel) to produce nice seo urls for permalinks. I added a non-www to www redirect in the same htaccess file that is working without a problem. I have triple-checked the blog's url settings and they seem fine. I have previously set up something similar on 2 other hosts without any problems.

The blog is accessible from www.example.com (http://www.example.com) and I have set it up to work at the root of this domain. There are no other potential conflicting htaccess files.

There are dozens of people on the wordpress official site with the same problem. The official documentation is quite comprehensive and I was able to check all their suggestions but one: "Your server may not have the AllowOverride directive enabled" ( http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Fixing_Other_Issues ). This doesn't seem likely as the www redirect is working fine.
I've read through over 40 threads from this search - http://wordpress.org/search/404+permalinks+htaccess?documentation=1&forums=1
but was unable to resolve the rewriting permalinks issue.

I opened a ticket regarding this issue 6 days ago.The ticket has been closed twice already with no solution or suggestion offered. Could anyone in these forums help please?

The problem was found and fixed by Nicholas a few hours ago - thank you so much.

The issue was with the web root directory path that was input via Site Manager. The rewrite engine is pretty picky about folder paths. It took me a while to finally figure this out. I modified the folder paths in Site Manager to be full paths, i.e., I changed /www/htdocs to /var/www/html for your domains.

Solution posted for reference :)

Thank you for posting the solution. I have the same problem.

It should be required in forums to return and give the solution if one is found. I know it is common courtesy but still.
