View Full Version : Re-pointing Domains

I'm waiting for my Westhost account to be set up, but have a question in the meantime.

I currently own 3 domain names, all registered with my current host.

One of these is a .co.uk for my main website, the second is the .com version of the same thing which is set up purely as a redirect and the third is for my second website which is set up as an add-on domain with my current host.

My plan is leave the domains with the current registrar (my existing host) and just rent the webspace from WestHost. This means I somehow have to make sure that all the dns stuff points in the right direction when I do the switch.

Without going into all the fine details, what do I need to do? For example what information will I need from WestHost to give my current host so they can re-point the domains to the right place? And how can I ensure the switch over will happen at the time I want it to?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Shawn. That looks straightforward enough.

Will I have to configure something in my control panel to make the 'add-on' domain point to the correct subdirectory in my space?

Yes you well have to add the domains via your Site Manager. There is more information on this in the WH Help pages via the Members Login link at the top of the forum or you can check out this Video tutorial that WH has supplied. http://helpdocs.westserver.net/videos/secondarydomain/
