Hi there - I run a website that has a forum just this this one, but have been getting spammers posting vulgar things on there. How do I block them or stop them from doing this? I've done a little research and was also wondering if anyone could tell me anything about captcha, or recaptcha? I don't seem to quite understand it and would like to know if it really is helpful or not. THANK YOU!!!

The best place to start is at the website for program that your forum runs on. This forum runs on vBulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com/) but yours may be another program. If you are a WestHost client and used the program in the Site Manager then it would be phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/).

A couple general rules for all programs are, do not allow guest to post and make new users verify their email address. Beyound that you need to find out what abilities your forum software has and enable them.

Many come with Captcha and all you have to do is enable it in the Admin area. Captcha means that a user has to enter the "code" they see in a scrambled image before they can submit something.
