So, how easy is it to migrate from one host to another? I'm at Lunarpages on my way to Westhost. I assume I can't just do a site backup there and then use that tarball file to restore at Westhost and expect it to work, right?

Any pointers or simple "forget it" would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It all depends...

If you are transferring html files, that should work

Transferring email, databases and applications is probably more complicated

I would take advantage of the money back period and have an overlap during which I could get the new host up and running

Richard is right. If you have any dynamic pages on your site that rely on paths and such then more then likey they won't work "out of the tar". You would have to go through those files and check to see what path settings may need to change.

If they rely on a database then you are going to have to recreate that database. Do you have something like PHPMyAdmin at your old site? You could use that to get your databases and transfer them. One diffrence might be the users for your databases. At West Host the user root is used for access to the database by default.
