View Full Version : preserve e-mail when transferring a domain

This is probably a simple question, but I've just started offering hosting services through the reseller program and now that I've got some clients, many of them are transferring their web site from another provider. They want to preserve their e-mail messages that are on their old server... what is the best way to do this? I've suggested that they use POP3 to download their e-mails and contacts from the webmail onto their machines, but what about when this is just not an option?

Thanks for any suggestions.

They can simply FTP the mbox file over if they're lucky. It all depends on how their old host stored the emails.

This isn't the best from a performance standpoint, but as a worst case senario. One thing you can do if they are currently using IMAP is to add the new IMAP host and depending on the program, drag either the folders or the messages to the new host.

It's much better if you can get the underlying files, but it's an option if they are on a provider that won't give you access.
