[QUOTE=davemon;46239]I
think I've done my homework and read all the information available from Westhost on this switchover. I know that WH has received a lot of criticism regarding this, but in my opinion WH has been very forthright about the whole thing and should be commended for that. WH has always been a cut above the rest with regard to Customer Satisfaction and this seems no different to me.
I have a couple questions to add to this long thread:
Hi Davemon,
Here are a few quick answers --
[list=1][*]In 3.0 a custom addition was needed to
httpd.conf in order to get WebDAV to work correctly, and even after making that change myself I cannot get Outlook 2007 to use the Calendar sharing feature, I get a returned error from the server. I probably did something wrong, but regardless - the question is:
Will WebDAV be a standard feature of WH4.0?
--- Yes, WebDAV is a standard feature of WH4.0. It's actually referred to as "Web Drive" under the control panel interface, since it can also be attached to a local Windows box as a "web location" - but it is present and available for other uses (e.g. calendars) as well.
[*]I have read some previous statements on these threads about projecting server up/down time (i.e. reliability) after the switchover. My own personal domains I'm not worried about with shared WH hosting, but I do manage an account for a professional society. They pay the bills, and I give them monthly reports on their web service. This question is directed to any Administrator or capable Moderator:
Please give a statement I can take back to those I report to, specifically addressing anticipated reliability after the switchover. I'd like to put them at ease.
--- We have some excellent server monitoring tools in place in 4.0 which are even better than the 3.0 environment's monitoring, so our reliability in 4.0 should at least match what we see in 3.0 (which is already extremely good). I can't quote any historical figures for 4.0 yet since there isn't much history to draw on - but you can tell your superiors that maintaining rock-solid uptime is one of our key goals in 4.0 as it was in 3.0.
[*]I can't even pronounce
Uebimiau much less spell it without copying (like I just did), so I renamed it on the server to Umail for the simple minded.
Please confirm that "Umail" is being deleted as an option in WH4.0, and if so, can you point me the in the right direction for a good POP3 server that I can use. While you're at it, if you'd recommend something more powerful please do so, since Umail is kind of lousy anyway in my opinion. I just don't want to be caught at the last minute trying to switch all my archived items over without a plan in place.
--- It's pronounced "way bee meow".

It is getting a bit dated as a webmail client, to be sure. It is still available in 4.0, since there are many people who do prefer it despite its relative antiquity. We will be offering a variety of webmail applications in 4.0 that you can choose from, and of course any third party PHP or Perl-based webmail application would run just fine in your account.
Please let us know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
