Default Website Creator Help? Alternatives?

I have been poking around Website Creator, and it's not what I thought it was.

I'm looking for a WYSIWYG program that will let my client edit existing html and php pages on her website.

Can I put tags on the existing pages that would allow Website Creator to recognize it as editable?

Other than FrontPage (too IE/Windows-centric, I have lots of clients who use Firefox and/or MACs) and Dreamweaver (too expensive), what are other alternatives? I prefer an online editor for my client so we don't have the added "upload" step.

Joomla and other open source applications use TinyMCE. It works with firefox just fine and would guess on the mac's, but haven't tested it.

I would agree with Scott that TinyMCE is a viable alternative. As he mentioned many popular CM's systems use it. When I first started working with it there where some limitations but it has really grown. It can be used as a stand alone system or easily integrated into other things. I tend to use it integrated into my own php systems that add some control over things for the client.

Thank you for the recommendation. It looks like this is what I need for my client.

I've just downloaded it and hope to test it out this weekend.

Has anyone been working with Trellian? I downloaded it because it is free and I'm on a budget but I would rather pay for something else that is reasonably priced if Trellian isn't a good choice. I haven't started with it yet.

I would definitely recommend WordPress.

WordPress is a powerful yet easy-to-use publishing platform. Although it is typically thought of as blogging software, WordPress can do much, much more and can run almost any kind of website (see 30 Untypical WordPress Sites or WordPress.org Showcase for examples).
